WEEK#1 - Adventures in Composition,
Using Visual Weight and Tension - Mark English
Ever wonder why some images catch your eye and draw you in, while others deserve no more than a passing glance? The answer might be that the photographer knew how to capitalize on a few simple prejudices of your visual system. The fact is, our eye-brain visual system has some distinct preferences; being drawn to some elements in our images over others. Visual elements preferred by our eye are said to have "visual weight", and when we incorporate these visual preferences into our work, images with real impact result. Composing images with an awareness of how the viewer's eye will be drawn into an image also allows you to create a visual path through the image...to guide the viewer to what you want them to see. But, the process doesn't end with the click of the shutter: carrying on in post-processing we can subtly enhance and even alter the visual weight relationships in our images with a few very simple and easy to use adjustments to perfect the image your saw in your mind's eye. |
WEEK#2-What's so Glamourous?-Danilo Piccioni
During the first lesson you will have many of your questions answered: the difference between Fashion and Glamour Photography, where does the word Glamour come from and what does it really mean, which will naturally lead us to a brief history of Glamour photography over the years. We will start learning all about the best and various lighting for glamour and the right types of lenses to use. After this lesson, you will be able to go grab your child, friend, neighbor or spouse and make the first of many compelling and fun glamour shots with your new found knowledge.

WEEK#4-Impressionistic Photography-Kathleen Clemons
All photographers record what they see, but many are interested in also conveying what they feel about a subject. Join Kathleen Clemons as she guides you in various techniques to create less literal, highly creative images. Explore how to capture the essence of your subject in a way that reflects your style and vision. The camera looks both ways, learn how to put more of yourself in your photos. |
WEEK#5-Shadows-Jill FLynn
Never underestimate the power of shadows. Shadows can tell stories, create mood, add a sense of mystery, showcase geometric patterns and add drama to your imagery. The list is as endless as your creativity. They are the Yin to light's Yang. Shadows can be bold, soft or moody and can be found both indoors and outdoors. This lesson is about finding, embracing and photographing shadows. It's about taking advantage of bright sunlight, angled light, filtered light and back light. Let shadows inspire you! |
WEEK#6-Food Photography in Natural Light-Ron Goldman
When it comes to food photography, light is the single most important aspect. No matter how beautifully a dish is prepared or styled, if it's lit improperly, there is no way it will look good. Most food photography is shot under expensive studio lighting specifically for this reason. However, most people don't have the lighting gear that the pro's use available and want to be certain that they are going to pursue this field of photography before making such a large investment. In this lesson, I will show you how to create beautiful images using natural and ambient lighting right in your home. |
