What's possible when you upload images to Corbis?
In the past six-months, July through December, 2007, the 24 images below generated more than $8,000 in stock sales. Some of these images sold only once, while others sold up to six times. Some of these images are Royalty-Free while others are Rights Managed-(more about this in the course).
Clearly, as you look at these images, you will no doubt say to yourself, “Heck I can take pictures like that!” I am sure you can, but the chief difference between you and I as well as the other instructors in this class, Pete, Sarah, Charlie and Danilo, is that we are making money from our pictures and you’re not. We are sincere in our desire to show you how to make money from your images, but you HAVE to do the work. Not all image making is FUN, and in many cases the subject matter can be quite mundane, but given time and patience, you will soon be reaping the financial rewards that come from being a well-informed stock shooter. And let me add this: IF you have dabbled in the world of “micro-stock” agencies, you are in all likelihood “giving away the farm”. Micro-stocks have their place, but they should be your last resort, NOT your first. Do the math: Would you rather be patient and make a single image sale for $250.00 over the course of six-months, or be “thrilled” to know that that same image at a Micro-Stock Agency sold more than fifty times for a lousy $1.00 each and every time?
If you are serious about stock and you desire to have the “inside track”, this
course just might be exactly what you are looking for!
And now a story from the “unbelievable but true” department!
In June of 2005, I thought it would be fun to spend just two days
in the Valensole Plain of Provence, France, shooting most of my images
from the lofty heights of ‘bucket truck’. (The Valensole Plain is this
vast flat plain of lavender fields, just east of the small village of
Valensole, France.)
And if you don’t know what a bucket truck is, its the same kind of truck used by Electrical and Phone companies with its long boom and attached small ‘bucket’ that allows the operator, in this case me, the photographer, views that are of course not normally found at ground level.
One of my morning outings found me in a large field of lavender, high above in
the bucket, about 50 feet, where I began shooting down onto the many rows of
lavender, and of course there was the proverbial lone tree in this particular
field.
At the end of my two day outing, I knew that I had recorded a number of good and fresh images, and not surprising, I was soon making a number of stock sales from these images thanks to Corbis. However, it was not until this past month that the rewards of my efforts for those two days went far beyond my expectations. The image you see below, taken on the first morning of my two day “bucket truck” trip back in June of 2005, sold through Corbis on December 26th, 2007 for a whopping $22,500.00!
I can honestly say, this is NOT normal in the world of stock, so PLEASE don’t use this as your reasoning for WHY you should take this course and jump into the world of stock photography! Truth be told, at Corbis, most of my one-time rights sales of Rights Managed images average around $450.00 and one-time rights sales of Royalty-Free images average around $75.00.
But hey, if you are lucky enough to have a sale like $10,000.00 every couple years, it sure makes the “grind” of shooting stock that much more rewarding!
Sincerely,
